Guided tour Shipping House

The Shipping House (or 'Scheepvaarthuis' in Dutch), is known as one of the first examples of Amsterdam School architecture. Museum Het Schip organizes guided tours on request.

The remarkable Shipping House, which is a national monument since 1974, is a beautiful example of the expressive Amsterdam School style. Famous architects, sculptors and stained glass artists expressed the Dutch shipping history and its related symbolism in the most expensive materials and exquisite details. Therefore, the Shipping House is a "Gesamtkunstwerk" in which the history of the rich Amsterdam shipping life is shown in a 'architecture parlante' (graphic novel in architecture). The exterior of the building brings in mind associations of a moored ship.

Grand Hotel Amrâth not only allows guests of the hotel to admire the interior. During guided tours, organised by Museum Het Schip, art- and culture lovers are given this oppurtunity as well.

Guided tours in English are given on request. Would you like to make a reservation for this tour?  Please contact the museum by This email address is being protected from spambots.
